Covid 19 Safety Advice from the London Fire Brigade

Places of worship are changing practices to conform to the government guidance on social distancing as they open to increasing numbers of people.

Alongside these changes, fire safety should be considered.  Places of Worship should also consider the guidance to all businesses opening after the Covid19 restrictions on the London Fire Brigade website.

https://www.london-fire.gov.uk/safety/the-workplace/

The key points are:

  1. Reviewing your Fire Risk Assessments: This document is likely to need updating to reflect any changes.
  2. Emergency evacuation plans:  Do you need to update your plan to incorporate social distancing into your evacuations and fire drills? Read our advice.
  3. Fire alarm systems Has your usual testing and maintenance schedule been disrupted? It’s time to check your alarms, extinguishers and other systems.
  4. Fire doors:  Are people propping open doors to avoid touching them when they should be kept shut? Know the risks.
  5. Training:  Do you still have the fire wardens and fire marshals you need?
  6. Fire Assembly Points:  How to assemble safely while remaining socially distanced. Arson Make sure combustible material hasn’t built up on or near to your premises.
  7. Salvage plans:  Are your people on standby if a salvage operation is needed?

I would like to thank all faith and community leaders for your help in getting the fire safety message out to all re-opening places of worship.
